We are excited that sand placement is wrapping up on Indian Shores for the Pinellas County beach nourishment project! Active construction is currently ongoing at the south end of Indian Rocks Beach. Central Ave and Whitehurst Ave beach access are currently closed.

The latest updates, and a map of the construction timeline and ongoing closures can be found at Pinellas.gov/pcbeaches.

Below you will find photos of the project progress. These photos clearly show which properties on Indian Shores did not sign easements. We have already had some residents ask for us to return to place sand. Unfortunately, we cannot go back once the contractor is not in the area.

Please note that easements are still being accepted! Properties on northern end of Indian Rocks Beach and southern end of Redington Shores may still have time to send in signed easements.

Project Background

As a result of a lack of signed construction easements from beachfront property owners, sand will not be placed or will be placed only seaward of the Erosion Control Line (ECL) in some areas. Property owners may see low spots on the beach behind their homes, particularly on Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores and Redington Shores, where property owners could not be located or chose not to sign construction easements.

  • Easements are still being accepted and additional properties may still be added to the project, depending on the stage of surveying. Property owners looking to sign their easement can contact the County through signforsand@pinellas.gov.
  • The easement acquisition progress can be viewed and tracked on the Beach Nourishment Easement Acquisition map.
