Business Impact Estimates

CS/SB 170 came into effect on October 1, 2023.  This legislation is related to the creation and contestation of local ordinances.  It introduces enhancements to the procedure that local governments must follow when passing ordinances and grants specific additional rights to individuals who wish to challenge them.  The bill mandates that cities must prepare a “business impact estimate” before adopting an ordinance, although there are exceptions to this requirement.  The estimate must be made available on the local government’s official website and should contain specific details, such as the intended purpose of the proposed ordinance, its anticipated economic impact on businesses, and any associated compliance costs.  These statements will be accessible on this designated webpage.
