REDINGTON SHORES, FL – After much reflection, Mayor Lisa Hendrickson has announced her decision to resign from her position, effective April 13, 2025. This decision comes with a deep sense of responsibility and a continued commitment to the town she has worked tirelessly to serve.
“When I took on this role, I truly believed I could make a meaningful difference for Redington Shores,” said Mayor Hendrickson. “It has been an incredible honor to serve, but I recognize the challenges that have made it difficult to implement necessary changes as quickly as our residents deserve. Our town faces significant obstacles in achieving long-term sustainability, and without strong collaboration among leadership, meaningful progress remains a challenge.”
Mayor Hendrickson emphasized the need for leadership that prioritizes integrity, trust, and a vision for the town’s future. “Redington Shores needs a governmental foundation and leaders who are dedicated to improving our town for all residents, working within a legal and ethical framework to enhance our quality of life and secure long-term sustainability,” she stated.
With a $14 million overall budget and more than 50% of the Town’s funds in investment accounts, major infrastructure issues due to neglect and mismanagement, and with another hurricane season fast approaching, Mayor Hendrickson stressed that Redington Shores must focus on long-term sustainability rather than short-term solutions tied to commissioner’s two-year terms. “Our community must take a broader view and plan beyond individual election cycles. We need leadership that is forward-thinking and committed to securing our town’s resilience against future challenges, especially as we continue to navigate FEMA regulations and hurricane recovery efforts,” she noted.
She also highlighted the importance of professional expertise in municipal governance. “Redington Shores deserves representation from individuals who have the knowledge and hands-on experience to address these critical issues effectively,” said Mayor Hendrickson. “My priority remains ensuring that our town is positioned for success with strong leadership that understands the complexities of municipal management and disaster recovery.”
As Redington Shores transitions to new leadership, the prior process for filling commission vacancies followed an established practice to ensure a structured and transparent selection process:
- The vacancy was posted for interested resident applicants.
- The Commission received and reviewed applications and spoke with applicants.
- The Commission conducted a vote to appoint a new commissioner.
A special election is not an option under the current town charter. Therefore, it is recommended that the appointment process follow the town’s established past practice and legal framework, ensuring compliance with governing regulations and fairness for all residents.
Mayor Hendrickson also acknowledged recent discussions regarding political influence at town meetings, where differing perspectives have been shared. “Public service and administration are complex, requiring thoughtful decision-making that prioritizes the best interests of residents. As we move forward, I encourage all involved to prioritize competence, collaboration, and the long-term success of our community over political differences. Strong, forward-thinking leadership is essential to navigating public services and securing a sustainable future for Redington Shores,” she affirmed.
Looking ahead, Mayor Hendrickson remains committed to advocating for the needs of Redington Shores residents. “After careful reflection, I believe our town needs a governmental foundation and leadership approach focused on long-term sustainability rather than short-term political interests. We must work together to ensure our community thrives for generations to come.”
She concluded with a heartfelt message to residents: “I have served with integrity and dedication, always striving to secure a stronger future for Redington Shores. Though I am stepping away from my official role, my commitment to this town remains unwavering. I encourage residents to seek leaders who will work collaboratively, embrace ethical leadership, and always put the well-being of our community first.”
