Pinellas County Solid Waste will host two free household chemical collection events on the barrier islands to provide residents with a convenient way to safely dispose of unwanted household chemicals in the aftermath of hurricanes Helene and Milton. The event details are as follows:
- Saturday, Nov. 16, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Treasure Island Fire Department parking lot: 180 108th, Treasure Island
- Saturday, Nov. 23, from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Belleair Causeway Boat Ramp: 3900 West Bay Drive, Belleair Bluffs
Items collected at the events will include:
- Automotive Products: Oil and Antifreeze (limit: 5 gallons)
- Gasoline and Diesel (limit: two five-gallon DOT containers, no tanks)
- Household Chemicals: Adhesives/Epoxies, Aerosols, Cleaners
- Lawn and Garden Chemicals: Pesticides, Herbicides, Fertilizers, Cleaners, Sprayers
- Paint Products: Paints, Stains, Solvents (limit: 20 one-gallon, 5 five-gallon)
- Pool and Spa Products: Chlorine, Muriatic Acid, Cleaners, Clarifiers
- Signal Flares: Marine, Road; Guns and cases NOT accepted (flares only)
- Rechargeable Batteries: Nickel-Metal Hydride (i.e., electric toothbrushes, razors, cameras, cellphones); Nickel Cadmium (i.e., cordless phones); Small Sealed Lead Acid; Lithium-Ion (i.e., cellphones, laptops, tablets, power tools, toys)
- Certain Non-Rechargeable, Single-Use Batteries: Lithium, Zinc-Air (i.e., hearing aid batteries), Zinc-Chloride, Mercury (i.e., watches, hearing aids), Lithium Manganese (LR), Button Batteries, Silver Oxide (SR) Button Batteries
- Items with rechargeable batteries that cannot be removed
- Vaping Devices (i.e., e-cigarettes) (Limit: 12)
The following items will NOT be accepted:
- Ammunition
- Electronics without rechargeable batteries
- Fire extinguishers
- Propane tanks and other compressed gas tanks
- Appliances
- Medicine and sharps
- Vehicle batteries

Pinellas County Solid Waste’s Household Hazardous Waste (HHW) program diverts household hazardous waste from the municipal solid waste stream for proper recycling and disposal. The HHW program also collects chemicals at the following facilities for free:
- HHW Center: Permanent collection facility open Tuesday through Friday and the first and third Saturdays of the month from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Located at 2855 109th Ave. N., St. Petersburg
