A proclamation, issued by the Town of Redington Shores, on May 8, 2024 resolves that the week of May 5-11, 2024, is designated as “Municipal Clerks Week,” a weeklong event aimed at increasing the public’s awareness of Municipal Clerks and the vital services they provide for local government and the community.

Unanimously adopted by the Town of Redington Shores, the proclamation extends appreciation to all Municipal and Deputy Clerks for the services they provide to their communities. Specifically, the proclamation cites that the Clerk “serves as the professional link between the citizens, the local governing bodies and agencies of government at other levels.”

The proclamation was presented to Town Clerk Margaret Carey and Deputy Town Clerk Jolie Patterson and signed by Mayor Lisa Hendrickson of the Town of Redington Shores. It also honors Municipal and Deputy Clerks for “continually striving to improve the administration of their duties through participation in educational programs, seminars, workshops and annual meetings of their state, province, county and international professional organizations.”

An annual event recognized by local governments and Municipal Clerks throughout the country, Municipal Clerks Week is sponsored by the International Institute of Municipal Clerks, a professional association of City, Town, Township, Village, Borough, Deputy and County Clerks. IIMC has approximately 15,000 members throughout the United States, Canada and 15 other countries. The Florida Association of City Clerks (FACC) also participates in the annual event. FACC is the professional association for Florida’s Municipal Clerks.

“Even though the Municipal Clerk is one of local government’s oldest positions, most people don’t know or realize what we do or how important our role is to our communities and the work of our local governments,” said FACC President and Dade City’s City Clerk Angie Guy, MMC. “So, this week is an excellent opportunity to not only help educate the public and raise awareness of this profession but also to celebrate Municipal Clerks everywhere and recognize their dedicated service to our communities.” This year’s event marks the 55th anniversary of Municipal Clerks Week.

Margaret Carey has served as the Town of Redington Shores Clerk since November 2023 and Deputy Clerk Jolie Patterson has served the Town since September 2022. Margaret holds a Master Municipal Clerk certification and has been a member of IIMC since 2015. Margaret is also a member of FACC and the Pinellas County Municipal Clerks Association.
