seaoatsRedington Shores is excited to announce their participation in the 2024 Pinellas County Sea Oat Giveaway! Each year, Pinellas County Coastal Management provides 1” or 2” sea oats to coastal municipalities and volunteer planting groups. Sea oats aid in building dunes which can help to protect infrastructure and our beaches. In order to apply for this program, please complete the application and email, mail, or hand deliver the application to Town Hall. The deadline to submit this application to town staff is Friday, May 31st at 12:00 p.m. If you have any questions, please contact Jolie Patterson depclerk@redshoresfl.com or 727-397-5538.

Let’s work together to strengthen our dunes and safeguard our beautiful coastline!

Things to remember before applying:

  • Sea oat planting should be west of any sea walls, structures, the coastal construction control line, and should comply with all DEP permit conditions.
  • Each request for sea oats must include a map depicting the address, location, and size of the area being planted. An example map can be provided if needed. This will allow the County to determine the number of sea oats needed and to track dune growth.
  • Each point of contact will be responsible for organizing a volunteer planting effort and for obtaining permits from the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) for the planting project.
  • FDEP has stated that permits will be required only if planting requires heavy equipment and machinery. If hand planting, FDEP has stated that no permit to plant native beach vegetation is required
