We appreciate everyone’s patience as we begin the road to recovery from Hurricane Helene. Please see below for a few updates on the timeline moving forward.

Please note- these dates are tentative and subject to change!

Storm Debris: The Town of Redington Shores is working with a debris removal contractor to begin the cleanup process. The debris removal process is expected to begin early next week. This process will involve picking up any storm debris left curbside from commercial or residential properties.

Power: Per Duke Energy, power is expected to return to Redington Shores over the weekend. Please stay up to date with the town website/ any updates directly from Duke Energy for more information.

The earliest Waste Connections can get on the island for trash pickup and roll off dumpster delivery is Monday, September 30th. Roll off dumpsters will be delivered to various locations around town.

Coordination is underway for debris pickup. Details will be communicated when available.

Lift stations in Redington Shores are currently down. Due to damages from the storm, replacement parts have been ordered. Estimated time for repair is no earlier than Monday.
Please continue to restrict water use as anything that goes down the drain could impact the sewer systems. Systems are already at high capacity levels. 

Power restoration is undetermined as of 9/28 at 4:45 p.m.

Crisis Cleanup has activated the Hurricane Helene Cleanup Hotline: (844) 965-1386. This is for people who need help cleaning up damage from the Hurricane Helene and connects people with volunteers from local relief organizations, community groups and faith communities who may be able assist with jobs such as mucks outs (cleaning up), trees, tarp, and debris. All services are free, but service is not guaranteed. This hotline will remain open through Friday, Oct. 11, 2024. Please note: This hotline cannot assist with social services such as food, clothing, shelter, insurance, or questions about FEMA registration. Volunteers work free of charge and provide the tools and equipment necessary to complete the work.

County Information Center remains open 24 hours. Call (727) 464-4333. Residents who are deaf or hard of hearing can contact the County Information Center via online chat at www.bit.ly/PinellasChat.

All Pinellas County barrier islands from the Dunedin Causeway through Tierra Verde continue to be closed to all citizens, including residents, until further notice.

Effective at 6:00 p.m. on September 26, 2024, access to all barrier islands has been closed to all citizens, including residents, until further notice.

This includes: Belleair Beach, Belleair Shore, Clearwater Beach, Dunedin Causeway/Honeymoon Island, Indian Rocks Beach, Indian Shores, Madeira Beach, North Redington Beach, Redington Beach, Redington Shores, St. Pete Beach, Tierra Verde, and Treasure Island.

IMPORTANT MESSAGE FROM Pinellas County Utilities: We need your help to reduce water usage today and tomorrow to help our water and wastewater systems handle increased rainwater and storm surge from Hurricane Helene. Please take the following steps during the storm:

Limit running dishwashers and clothes washing machines.
Turn off all sprinklers, check that your automatic sprinkler settings are also turned off.
Limit flushing the toilet. Sewers will already be overloaded and too much flushing could cause sewage backups.

UPDATE: September 26, 2024 5:24 p.m

Access to the barrier islands and gulf beaches is anticipated to be cut off around 6 p.m. If your road is not flooded and it is safe to leave, NOW IS YOUR LAST CHANCE to evacuate. If you do not leave, first responders may not be able to get to you for hours in severe storm conditions. Turn off the breakers when you leave. If your road is already flooded, don’t try to get out. Shelter in place in the highest spot inside your home.

UPDATE: September 26, 2024 2:31 p.m.

Following guidance from the U.S. Coast Guard, Pinellas County has locked its three movable bridges, including the Park Boulevard Bridge in the closed position in advance of Hurricane Helene.

The Dunedin Causeway bridges, Beckett Bridge in Tarpon Springs and Park Boulevard Bridge in Seminole will remain open to vehicle traffic, but will not open for boat traffic until conditions are clear following the storm.

Owners of high clearance boats that need to move them to a more secure location before the storm should do so before the bridges close tonight.

UPDATE: September 24, 2024 11:15 a.m.

Today, Pinellas County Board of County Commissioners declared a State of Local Emergency for Potential Tropical Cyclone 9, which is expected to become a major hurricane. Mayor Hendrickson has also Proclaimed a State of Local Emergency for the Town of Redington Shores.

A major storm is pending. Higher than normal storm surge is expected in our area. Evacuation is anticipated.

A sandbag station has been set up at Town Hall.

Town Hall will be closed on Thursday, September 26.
