Mayor HendersonMayor MaryBeth Henderson has decided to resign as the Mayor of Redington Shores, effective December 29th, 2023. She cited her concerns regarding the new Form 6 Financial Disclosure requirement, which is a far more detailed disclosure of an official’s finances, as the main reason for her decision. Earlier this month, District 2 Commissioner, Christy Herig, also tendered her resignation, citing the same concern.

We would like to thank Mayor Henderson for her years of service to our town and wish her all the best in her future endeavors.

The following is the resignation letter from MaryBeth Henderson:

“I am writing to tender my resignation as the Mayor of Redington Shores, effective December 29th, 2023.

My decision is primarily influenced by my concerns regarding the Form 6 financial disclosure requirements. The level of personal financial information that Form 6 demands represents a form of governmental overreach, in my opinion. The intrusive nature of these requirements has compelled me to reconsider my role and its impact on my privacy and independence.

Although I recognize the importance of transparency in public service, the extent of exposure required by Form 6 is excessive. It infringes upon the privacy of public officials and their families, which could discourage many qualified individuals from pursuing public service.

Serving as Mayor has been a journey filled with significant learning, growth, and contributions to our community. I take pride in our collective accomplishments and am deeply grateful for the support and dedication of the town’s staff, the commission, and the residents of Redington Shores. The cooperative spirit and resilience of our community have been the cornerstone of our success.

I am dedicated to facilitating a smooth transition of my duties in the coming weeks. I have complete confidence that the inherent leadership and resilience in our community will continue to propel Redington Shores toward a bright and prosperous future.

Thank you for the opportunity to serve this community. It has been a genuinely enriching experience, and I eagerly anticipate watching Redington Shores thrive in the upcoming years.”
